Why Is My Car Overheating?

Overheating Car Engine

As long as there’s been moving mechanical components that create friction (and thus heat), there’s been the potential for overheating. In the case of the modern automobile, a computer-monitored cooling system is used to help prevent this – but the components in this system experience wear just like any other, and can leave your vehicle prone to overheating if left unchecked. Learn more about what causes a vehicle to overheat, as well as what to do when a car overheats – just keep reading! Be sure to contact us if you have any questions!

What Does It Mean When Your Car Overheats?

Like many things that can happen on the roads of Brandon, an overheating incident is merely a symptom of a larger problem with your vehicle. A certified technician is your best option for figuring out the problem, and our Service Department has the staff and equipment to figure out the problem, which could be any of these:

  • It’s possible that there’s a leak in your cooling system.
  • There could be an issue with the coolant in your vehicle – possibly the wrong type.
  • One of the coolant hoses may have blockage in it, preventing coolant from flowing.
  • There could be an issue with the radiator itself.
  • Your vehicle’s coolant pump may be malfunctioning.

Knowing these possibilities can help you stay on top of the life of these components and thus make overheating much less likely. Next we’ll cover what to do when a car overheats.
